Arriving at the Keys at sunset we were looking for a nice place to built up our Camp-let. The camp-grounds were already closed but we found a parking lot of a state park next to the beach.
Even at night it was still very hot so we opened of course the windows of our sleeping room. But that was a mistake.
We went to bed sweating from the humidity and with a sunburn from the beach and couldn't find sleep. We felt all the time little bites but only heard one mosquito.
So we finally got up before sunrise, but when we stepped out of our Camp-let we were really attacked by them, they came in millions and we felt like we were the aim of a paintball game. The only thing we could do was sprinting for the insect repellent and spraying us from head to toe and put up a new record in building down our Camp-let. The locals later told us our enemies were No-see-ums, really a perfect name as they were so tiny that they even got through the mosquito net into our tent.
The rest of our stay was luckily more enjoyable although the No-see-ums seems to like the Keys as well.
Done with the Eastcoast we decided we will go to see the Gulf coast as well. But before we stopped of course to visit the Everglades. And we got them all, from the turtle, to crocodile, alligator and manatees :)
They were it really worth to handle the thousands of Mosquitos which were hunting us around before we reached our safe Benz. After the nice beaches of Naples we suddenly got an invitation on Facebook for an Hungarian Gulasch soup.
So we accepted and spent two great days with a big Hungarian family, having delicious homemade food and a fun day with jet skies at the beach. And on top of all Flipper was showing up as well ;)
