What we did last week you can only do with a camp-let, because it is so easily built up. We were sleeping at 7 different places; two gas stations (one with ocean view), in a canyon at 2000 m above sea level and at two observatories from where we could see so many stars.
The Elqui Valley is not only famous for the Ruta del Estrella, here comes the Chile Pisco from. It is a little surreal place, it looks like a stone desert and only in the valley where the Elqui river flows is a small green belt. Here we also wanted to test what it feels like to camp above 4000m. As there is a pass on this height, but when we reached the Chilean customs on 2000m he told that this pass is closed. So we will test that at another border to Argentina before we will reach Bolivia where we will try it for sure.
In Coquimbo we visited the harbour where we were lucky to see many sea lions waiting for some left overs from the fishermen. As they where eating we where doing the same - we bought some fresh fish, turned out our Camp-let kitchen and cooked our meal right away at the harbour ;)
