After the break-in, we ordered some stuff from the USA. So had to stay close to Santiago as we have to drive back there to get it from the hostel.
So we drove up north to visit some cities and villages at the coast, we heard should be really nice. The first city we visited was Valparaiso. It is a mixture of beautiful old houses but also some very poor houses overlooking the big harbour and the sea from from many hills.
The contrast couldn't be bigger when we came to the neighbor city Vina del Mar. Here was nothing dirty or worn down, everything looked perfect trimmed and nice. And all the big apartment buildings and the beautiful beach looked like Vina del Mar is the Côte d'Azur from Chile. We drove a little more up north following a nice coast road before we built up our camp-let at a gas station close to Concon.
The next stop was Horcon, a tiny fishermen village, where we had lunch in a small restaurant overlooking the sea and the harbour with pelicans sitting on the roofs. Passing by some beautiful beaches in Maitencillo, we also did some beach walks in Chachagua and Zappalar where beautiful villas and big gardens lying next to the ocean.
We finally build up our tent in Papudo, right next to the beach and some other world travelers we met before. Also the weather was not so nice that day we were lucky to see a beautiful sunset that evening. So we went sleeping hearing the waves rolling on the beach. But in the middle of the night, the wind blow up and our roof over us and suddenly we were sitting in "cabrio" camp-let :) So in future, even if there is no wind we will at least one hook in, but the good thing is that we did it so often, the Camp-let is easily built up in 5 minutes again.
The place we camped was a nice spot in an apartment area, which was totally empty to that time. But next morning the maintenance guy came and told us that we have to leave. Looking for free internet and showers we found a nice tennis club providing both. Next night we tried another spot at the beach, but we were unlucky. In the middle of the night at 1 am we woke up from red flashlights, the Chilean police told us that it is not allowed to camp on that spot and had no sorrow and let us sleep a couple of more hours so that we can leave the next morning. We had to leave right now and so we had to build up our Camp-let in the middle of the night. So we were very tired we just drove to our tennis club and slept in our car.
Next day after stopping at a beach with the biggest waves we have ever seen, we decided to leave the coast and drove east into the mountains. We were just driving on the motorway when a car was overtaking us with flashing lights and showing us that we should stop. So we stopped next to the road, thinking something is wrong with our car or the camp-let. But they just wanted to sign our car, as they have seen us in the news and really liked our project ;)
After driving some beautiful serpentine roads, we found a nice little campground with wild animals running on the campground in the middle of a national park. And in the evening we had got invited to have bbq with some students from Santiago staying there ;)
